There are several versions of this Medieval German legend. The main narrative of the story is the same although the details of its telling vary, and this is that Christ passed a Jew's house as he was dragged to Calvary. Wearied from carrying the cross, he stopped to rest at the house but was refused by the Jew. Christ told him "I shalt stand and rest, but thou shalt go till the last day". The Jew was compelled to roam the earth for the rest of time.
