Nastrond

This is the term for the Scandanavian and Icelandic Hell. It is said to have a freezing temperature and be "a dark abode far from the sun". Wreathed snakes form the walls, and their venom falls continuously like rain. A great dragon, Nidhog, gnaws at the dead and it is surrounded by poisonous streams. It's said that Loki is chained to a splintered rock in Nastrond, and he shudders each time the snakes' venom falls on him -causing earthquakes.
