I Ching Meanings - Gorge - K'an

Water
Season: (Winter)
Gorge
K'an:
The impetuous and adventurous spirit of water flowing in rivers and streams

This trigram is made up of a single whole line between two restraining opened lines, flowing on without hesitation or reservation. It is symbolic of the middle son, who is somewhat cunning, bold, venturesome, deep, dark and dangerous; the son who needs to move on and establish his own path or new house or venture.  It is also symbolic of risk taking, like water forging ahead no matter what obstacles lie in its path.  It sweeps along or absorbs things in its way, confronting, challenging and overcoming all obstructions.
